One of the current debates is the concern about madrasas and religious learning. This paper examines the case of Muslim communities as they seek to revise the content of religious learning and pursue various pedagogies that can assist these efforts. Looking at both the current state of affairs, and in light of the history of religious-ethical formation in Islam, the paper argues that a phenomenological approach to formation, which has been tested by and shared across religious traditions, can help create a meaningful program to prepare members of the Muslim community for engagement with contemporary society. |
