Document Details : Title: Batailles lezing van Sade Subtitle: Genot en literatuur als expressies van kracht Author(s): LAUWAERT, Lode Journal: Tijdschrift voor Filosofie Volume: 73 Issue: 2 Date: 2011 Pages: 231-260 DOI: 10.2143/TVF.73.2.2118205 Abstract : This paper explores Bataille’s reading of Sade. Particularly, the author departs from two remarkable comments made by Bataille. On the one hand Bataille focuses on the apathetic enjoyment of the libertines in Sade’s prose. On the other hand Bataille mentions Sade’s literary techniques. The author further develops the suggestion of a surprising parallel between the sadist and Sade (as a writer). Moreover, the thesis is defended that there exists a reason for this striking similarity, namely: both content and form of Sade’s prose has to be understood from the metaphysics and the philosophy of nature developed by Sade. |
