Specifically, it examines the Buddhist spiritual framework of the ‘perfection of wisdom’ as exemplified in the Mahayana text, Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Lines, and the Christian spiritual framework of being ‘righteoused by faith’ as found in the apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans. These spiritual frameworks are illustrative examples of processes of ultimate transformation. It is argued that, while these two systems of spiritual transformation in Buddhism and Christianity are markedly distinct in their own religious-linguistic-cultural contexts, they both present practitioners with an answer to the human problematic through an understanding of a spiritual ideal that is made possible by the fundamental and transformational experience of Ultimate Reality. |
