Document Details : Title: Intercultural Theology in East Asia Subtitle: Bold Imangination and Hermeneutics Author(s): CHUNG, Paul S. Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 19 Issue: 2 Date: 2009 Pages: 179-194 DOI: 10.2143/SID.19.2.2044691 Abstract : In this age of global Christianity voices of intercultural theology can be heard in East Asia. Its theological imagination accompanies cultural diversity and religious plurality, which shape and characterize Asian theological audacity. Insofar as the biblical narrative is seen in light of the living voice of God (God’s speech event), its narrative can be reconfigured and reinterpreted in terms of critical reflection on the Western theological system while engaging in an Asian theory of interpretation in conversation with religious outsiders. In this paper we will introduce several models of Asian contextual theology and explore the Asian theory of interpretation in view of an emerging irregular theology. |
