Document Details : Title: Van Jeugdsentiment tot opzichtige camp Subtitle: Ja zuster, nee zuster Author(s): VERSTRATEN, Peter Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 51 Issue: 3 Date: 2009 Pages: 387-402 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.51.3.2042567 Abstract : Apart from novelisations at the time of the popular Dutch television series Yes sister, no sister (1966-1968), two other novelisations were published more than three decades later. Out of predominantly nostalgic considerations, one of them opts for a faithful reconstruction of the original program. The other novelisation was written after the series had been reworked into a successful film that invited camp readings. In the book, the homosexual subtext of the film is emphasized by way of colourful photographs, playful illustrations and references to videoclips. The variety of visuals is more prominent than the text in this novelisation. The theory of remediation presupposes that the hybrid nature of a medial object is in the service of an illusion of reality or meant to convey an authentic experience. By contrast, hypermediacy only highlights the grotesque artificiality of the diegetic world. Hence, this novelisation is a form of anti-remediation par excellence. |
