Out of predominantly nostalgic considerations, one of them opts for a faithful reconstruction of the original program. The other novelisation was written after the series had been reworked into a successful film that invited camp readings. In the book, the homosexual subtext of the film is emphasized by way of colourful photographs, playful illustrations and references to videoclips. The variety of visuals is more prominent than the text in this novelisation. The theory of remediation presupposes that the hybrid nature of a medial object is in the service of an illusion of reality or meant to convey an authentic experience. By contrast, hypermediacy only highlights the grotesque artificiality of the diegetic world. Hence, this novelisation is a form of anti-remediation par excellence. |
