Document Details : Title: Exegese des Makarios von Tkōou über den Erzengel Michael Author(s): MOAWAD, Samuel Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 122 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2009 Pages: 11-26 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.122.1.2037149 Abstract : Macarius is known as a Coptic bishop of Tkōou in Upper Egypt in the fifth century. The Coptic and Arabic sources transmit very little information about his person. He attended the Councils of Ephesus (431) and Chalcedon (451). He became a martyr in Alexandria when he refused to sign the 'Tome of Leo' (Pope of Rome) shortly after the Council of Chalcedon. His relics are still preserved in the monastery of St. Macarius the Great in Wādī al-Naṭrūn near Alexandria. The only preserved work of Macarius is a homily in Sahidic Coptic about the archangel Michael, of which this article gives a German translation. |
