Document Details : Title: Spirituality as a Chance for Intercultural Theology Author(s): GIORDAN, Giuseppe Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 18 Issue: 2 Date: 2008 Pages: 203-211 DOI: 10.2143/SID.18.2.2033322 Abstract : The spiritual dimension, according to the meaning that the sociology of religion is adopting, highlights the increasingly important role played by the believer in relation to the religious institution: to assert individual freedom and creativity regarding faith means to be able to link the relation with the sacred with relatively new themes such as the pursuit of well-being and of personal fulfilment, understanding one’s feelings and emotions, the pursuit of health and the search for the meaning of existence. The purpose of the article is to illustrate the new possibility offered by the category of spirituality for confronting and exchanging views, beliefs and values, and to highlight how such concept provides space for an interreligious and intercultural theological approach, legitimating the relation with the sacred in an increasingly pluralistic perspective. |
