First, I will explain what the custom of the Chair of Eliyahu is, what its source is and further what its association is with the circumcision. In addition, I will discuss how the custom of the Chair of Eliyahu developed over the generations especially among the Oriental Jewish congregations. In an appendix I will present photographs of the Chair of Eliyahu from Oriental Jewish synagogues in New York, London and Melbourne, as well as from synagogues and banquet halls in Israel. |
