Document Details : Title: Imitating Jesus Author(s): BOS, Benedikte L. Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 18 Issue: 1 Date: 2008 Pages: 96-104 DOI: 10.2143/SID.18.1.2031613 Abstract : What does it mean to imitate Jesus? A Dutch hymn states: «To be a human being on earth in this age … is to be like Jesus who showed us how.» Is that what Christians are called to here and now — a kind of copycat behaviour? That is impossible in a world that is so different from that of twenty-one centuries ago, in social, cultural and religious respects. This article searches for the contemporary meaning of the Christian life. Via a few examples, the author searches for a way in which people can go through life inspired by the stories about Jesus — not to be like him precisely but to be more themselves through him. |
