Document Details : Title: Hierakapollon, the Title of Panos Polis and the Names in -Apollon Author(s): LITINAS, Nikos Journal: Ancient Society Volume: 37 Date: 2007 Pages: 97-106 DOI: 10.2143/AS.37.0.2024033 Abstract : Onomastic study of theophoric names compounded with -apollon as their second element. These names are typical of Roman Egypt, especially the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD. They are both Greek and Egyptian, depending on the first part of the name. Some of them are limited to a particular part of Egypt, e.g. the Panopolite (Hierakapollon, Besapollon, Horapollon), the Hermopolite (Heraklapollon, Hermapollon) and the Arsinoite nomes (Isapollon) and illustrate the religious particularisms of Egypt up to the late Roman period. |
