Migrants appear to form new identities in their new home and also to retain their original identities. This article argues that society should be open to this shaping of new multiple identities. These fluid and hybrid identities have become subject of theological discussions as well. Insights from post-colonial studies are used to criticize exclusive concepts of truth in Christianity. The article points out that there is a development towards multiple religious belonging in Europe. Diversity is not a threat but an enrichment. With respect to interreligious dialogue, this implies the importance of seeing oneself through the eyes of the other and to set up common ethical projects. We need religious polyphonic communities, searching for the good life for all, embracing life in its diversity. |
