Document Details : Title: Trends and Developments in Interreligious Dialogue Author(s): EVERS, Georg Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 16 Issue: 2 Date: 2006 Pages: 235-250 DOI: 10.2143/SID.16.2.2017811 Abstract : As the title suggests, the article “Trends and Developments in Interreligious Dialogue” attempts to give an overview of activities, events and ideas dealing with the meeting and living together of people of different faiths. The many incidents of terrorist actions and violence against people in the name of religion have brought the advocates of interreligious dialogue into a difficult position in explaining the effectiveness of their endeavours in working for harmony and peace by engaging in dialogue. The article tries to show, that despite the activities of terrorists that are only too easily covered in the world’s media, there are many other activities of people of different faiths working for peace and understanding. The voices condemning any form of violence in the name of religion are increasing and with it the hope that the terrorists will loose support for their actions. |
