Document Details : Title: 'Ray Of Truth That Enlightens All' Subtitle: Nostra Aetate and Its Reception by the FABC Author(s): MENDOZA, Ruben C. Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 16 Issue: 2 Date: 2006 Pages: 148-172 DOI: 10.2143/SID.16.2.2017806 Abstract : In the Asian setting, Nostra Aetate serves as a watershed in the Church’s relationship with peoples of other faiths. The Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) embraced its call to engage in interreligious dialogue as well as to discern those “rays of truth” that are found in other religious traditions. Indeed, we find in the FABC statements a profound respect both for the quest of other traditions for life’s meaning and for the Holy Spirit’s presence in these traditions. The Holy Spirit appears to be a key in the FABC’s understanding and interpretation of other faiths. The Church as the community of the Spirit is called to discern the same Spirit’s presence in others, a task that enables the Church to consider religious pluralism as God’s gift to both the Church and the world. |
