Document Details : Title: The Sothic Date from the Ptolemaic Temple of Isis at Aswan Author(s): ROSE, L.E. Journal: Bibliotheca Orientalis Volume: 56 Issue: 1-2 Date: januari - april 1999 Pages: 14-34 DOI: 10.2143/BIOR.56.1.2015804 Abstract : Marshall Clagett has recently called attention to a Sothic date that previous studies appear to have overlooked. This is the first time in the twentieth century that a “new” Sothic date has been identified as such. The material in question is from a vertical, three-column inscription on the right-hand jamb of an interior doorway leading into the sanctuary of the Ptolemaic temple of Isis at Aswan. The inscription itself can be rough-dated by its two cartouches to the reign of Ptolemy IV Philopator. Clagett's Figure III.1 gives the hieroglyphic text as published just over a century ago. |
