Abstract :
Marshall Clagett has recently called attention to a Sothic date that previous studies appear to have overlooked. This is the first time in the twentieth century that a “new” Sothic date has been identified as such. The material in question is from a vertical, three-column inscription on the right-hand jamb of an interior doorway leading into the sanctuary of the Ptolemaic temple of Isis at Aswan. The inscription itself can be rough-dated by its two cartouches to the reign of Ptolemy IV Philopator. Clagett's Figure III.1 gives the hieroglyphic text as published just over a century ago.
