Document Details : Title: Deus Caritas est Subtitle: Love in a Time of Hatred Author(s): POST, Stephen G. Journal: Marriage, Families & Spirituality Volume: 12 Issue: 1 Date: Autumn 2006 Pages: 101-106 DOI: 10.2143/INT.12.1.2013508 Abstract : On 25 January 2006, pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical “Deus caritas est” was promulgated. It has been widely praised as a profound and persuasive affirmation of divine love in a time of immense fragmentation and hatred across the globe. The encyclical asserts the perennial depth of love that shapes Christianity, exhorts to abide in this love, and encourages all religions to replace arrogance with love’s humility. The INTAMS reviewhas asked Stephen G. Post, Professor of Religion and Bioethics at the School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio), and President of the Institute for Research on Unlimited Love, to comment on this document. He examines selected themes from the encyclical without attempting to be exhaustive. |
