Journal: Revue des Études Juives Volume: 152 Issue: 3-4 Date: juillet-décembre 1993 Pages: 257-312 DOI: 10.2143/REJ.152.3.2012649 Abstract : Léon Gauthier published twice his study on Burgundian Jewry - Les Juifs dans les Deux-Bourgognes - once in the Revue des Études Juives, then again in the Mémoires de la société d'émulation du Jura, but both times he was unable to see his documents (pièces justificatives) published. Nevertheless, Gauthier's article is the main article on the topic. Twenty years ago, the noted Jewish historian Bernhard Blumenkranz, tried without success to locate a copy of the original article of Gauthier. The present author identifies most of the documents used by Gauthier. These documents are the most important for the history of Burgundian Jewry in the Middle Ages. |
