Document Details : Title: À propos des figurations de stūpa de deux inscriptions malaises Author(s): JACQ-HERGOUALC'H, Michel Journal: Journal Asiatique Volume: 282 Issue: 1 Date: 1994 Pages: 201-213 DOI: 10.2143/JA.282.1.2006121 Abstract : Two inscriptions discovered in Malaysia are decorated with a representation of a stūpa, the characteristics of which are very similar. An iconographic study of these two representations shows similarities to bas-reliefs and monoliths found in some of the caves at Ajaṇṭā which date from the end of the fifth century A.D. These two representations of stūpa confirm that from the beginning of the Gupta period Indian traders reached Malaysian shores and built Buddhist temples there. |
