An iconographic study of these two representations shows similarities to bas-reliefs and monoliths found in some of the caves at Ajaṇṭā which date from the end of the fifth century A.D. These two representations of stūpa confirm that from the beginning of the Gupta period Indian traders reached Malaysian shores and built Buddhist temples there. |
