Document Details : Title: De 'literaire' vriendschap tussen Constantijn Huygens en Dorothea van Dorp Subtitle: Een verliefde jongen te rade bij een emblematicus Author(s): BLOEMENDAL, Jan , LEERINTVELD, Ad Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 47 Issue: 3 Date: 2005 Pages: 275-285 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.47.3.2005356 Abstract : In 1619, Constantijn Huygens wrote the poem ‘Is ’t quelling sonder maet’ for the girl next door, Dorothea van Dorp, who wanted to have a relationship with him. In this poem, Huygens makes it clear that he does not want anything other than just friendship. The poem is also a literary game in which Huygens incorporated twenty-five quotations from classical authors that he added in the margins of his manuscript. Eight of these he found in Otto Vaenius’ emblem book Amorum emblemata (1608). The hypothesis is here stated that Huygens may have given this booklet to Dorothea. |
