At first sight, the arly-9th century Dutch poet Johannes Kinker (1764-1845) seemed to agree, but a close reading of both his essays and his philosophical poems makes clear that Kinker tried to surpass the Königsberg master and reconcile the sensible with the supersensible. This attempt brought Kinker close to the aesthetic idealism of Friedrich Schiller. Rather than trying to establish the influence Schiller might have had on Kinker, I suggest that the standard analysis of the relation of Schiller to Kant might be instructive for our understanding of the relation of Kinker to Kant. |
