Document Details : Title: The Site of Tigranocerta (I) Author(s): SINCLAIR, T. Journal: Revue des Études Arméniennes Volume: 25 Date: 1994-1995 Pages: 183-253 DOI: 10.2143/REA.25.0.2003781 Abstract : The city of Tigranocerta is associated with the most prestigious period in the history of the Armenian kingdom, and indeed with one of the most prestigious in the history of Armenia in general. The kingdom of Armenia never reached a state of political influence so great, or controlled a territory so extensive, as during a short period in the reign of Tigran the great in the early first century B.C.. It was during this period, 83 to 69 B.C., that Tigranocerta was built — although strictly speaking it was still unfinished at its capture by Lucullus in 69 B.C. |
