Current Sumerological scholarship generally neglects Onomastics, for two reasons: first, due to the absence of a coherent context, the interpretation of personal names is often open to considerable doubt, and second because the customs and practices associated with Sumerian name-giving are still largely unknown, leaving aside the problems of Sumerian grammar. In spite of these problems, insights into Sumerian naming are still possible. |
