Document Details : Title: Compiling a Palmyrene Prosography Subtitle: Methodological Problems Author(s): PIERSIMONI, Palmira Journal: ARAM Periodical Volume: 7 Issue: 1 Date: 1995 Pages: 251-260 DOI: 10.2143/ARAM.7.1.2002230 Abstract : A prosopography of Palmyra has been a desideratum for a long time, because of the large quantity of epigraphic material available and the abundance of onomastic data in the inscriptions. The Palmyrene epigraphic material has been the source of an endless number of publications, but none of them have been specifically dedicated to a systematic reading of genealogies, kinships and connections between the single and the tribe, the single and the family, the temples and the professions. Therefore prosopography becomes an instrument of analysis of the social and religious fabric of the city of Palmyra. |
