Document Details : Title: Preservation, Destruction and Restoration of Byzantine Monuments Subtitle: Some Anatolian Cases Author(s): RUGGIERI, Vincenzo Journal: Orientalia Christiana Periodica Volume: 90 Issue: 2 Date: 2024 Pages: 429-444 DOI: 10.2143/OCP.90.2.3294457 Abstract : This common thread is the thematic and planned unity that I like to present in order to sketch a regular path that many may follow in the study of the civilizations that have succeeded one another on Anatolian land. If someone, pushed by ideological reasons or by economic interests tries to eradicate a civilization, and if this civilization happens to be the Christian Byzantine one, a gap will be created, a void that shall not be filled by ideological idiocies, a common tool that is most popular today even in the so-called academic culture. If a void is created and a root is totally eradicated, the process is irreversible. In many cases, in many sites I have seen unique and excellent testimonies disappear, lands have been freed up and vulgarly granted to a commercializing tourism that brings nothing but transient money and fullness of stupidity. |
