Document Details : Title: The Eight-Century Presanctified Liturgy of Sinai Syriac M47N Including Several Later Syriac Witnesses Author(s): BROCK, Sebastian P. , WINKLER, Gabriele Journal: Orientalia Christiana Periodica Volume: 90 Issue: 2 Date: 2024 Pages: 461-521 DOI: 10.2143/OCP.90.2.3294459 Abstract : The Presanctified Liturgy generally consists of Vespers combined with a Service of Communion. Our oldest and indeed archaic witness is the eighth-century Rsham kasa (the ‘Signing of the Chalice’) contained in Sinai New Finds Syr M47N, presented here in the Syriac original with English translation and detailed commentary; the later witnesses, attributed to Basil, Chrysostom, and to Severus are documented in translations in the Appendix. The edition and extensive study of M47N, combined with the later Syriac testimony of Bas, Chrys, and Sev, completes the publication of the three otherwise unattested Syriac liturgical texts in this eighth-century manuscript: for the baptismal rite, see OCP 86 (2020), 411-435; and for the Anaphora fragment, see OCP 88 (2022), 301-346. |
