Document Details : Title: Uncommon Biblical Details Subtitle: On the Sources of the Chinese Christian Texts Discourse on God (Yishen lun) and Book of the Messiah (Xuting Mishisuo Jing) Author(s): BALMONT, Alexis Journal: Orientalia Christiana Periodica Volume: 91 Issue: 1 Date: 2025 Pages: 69-92 DOI: 10.2143/OCP.91.1.3294859 Abstract : The Chinese Christian texts Yishenlun and Xuting Mishisuo Jing frequently appear to refer to biblical sources, albeit in a manner that is not consistently attested in other Christian texts of antiquity or the Middle Ages. The recent hypothesis that these two texts are modern forgeries naturally leads to the interpretation of many of these discrepancies as errors. However, by comparing the texts with ancient and modern biblical sources, the article adds new internal elements that support the view that both texts draw on unedited Christian traditions, which are likely to have originated in Central Asia. |
