Abstract :
The Roman interest in Egyptian culture began at least in the Late Republican period and continued in the Imperial age, boosted by increased contacts between Egypt and the Empire. Within this cultural-historical framework, the representations of Nilotic landscapes in different types of artistic media also began to be developed in the Roman repertoire. The aim of this paper is to analyse a Nilotic mosaic situated in the Insula Episcopalis of Naples. The reinterpretation of its archaeological context and chronology also provides new insights on the overall iconographic study of this mosaic floor.
