Document Details : Title: Thomas Aquinas on Judgement and Being Author(s): QUARTUCCI, Alfonso Journal: Recherches de Théologie et Philosophie Médiévales Volume: 92 Issue: 1 Date: 2025 Pages: 31-93 DOI: 10.2143/RTPM.92.1.3294374 Abstract : In three places in his works (namely In I Sent., d. 19, q. 5, a. 1, ad 7; In I Sent., d. 38, q. 1, a. 3; Super De Trinitate, q. 5, a. 3), Aquinas connects the first and the second operation of the intellect with essence and esse, respectively. The connection of the second operation with esse reflects its role in grasping what is conjoined in reality. This interpretation accords not only with the very passages in which Aquinas connects the second operation of the intellect with esse, but also with several other passages. |
