Abstract :
The article explores an ancient Egyptian survival in Coptic in relation to the transferred idea of port and shipping as a metaphor for a happy end of life. The Vita Pachomii can serve as a textual basis for this motif. The existence of the motif is evidenced by Egyptian parallels that date back to the Pharaonic period.
