Document Details : Title: Center and Periphery in the Coptic Liturgy of Ottoman Egypt Subtitle: The Colophons of Manuscript Dayr al-Suryān Liturgy 469 Author(s): MIKHAIL, Arsenius Journal: Orientalia Christiana Periodica Volume: 90 Issue: 1 Date: 2024 Pages: 175-190 DOI: 10.2143/OCP.90.1.3293759 Abstract : The present article is an edition and analysis of two Arabic colophons of an unpublished Coptic Euchologion, Dayr al-Suryân Liturgy 469 (AD 1623/4). These colophons serve to instantiate the relationship between two liturgical centers in Ottoman Egypt, namely, the Patriarchate and the Monastery of St. Antony near the Red Sea, against the backdrop of the periphery, represented by a general reference to episcopal practice in individual dioceses of the Coptic Church. |
