Présidant à ce large éventail de compétences, Pan se présente comme une divinité au culte très ancien et complexe, qui renvoie souvent à un contexte géographique bien précis: l’Arcadie. Un groupe d’épigrammes transmis par différents livres de l’Anthologie grecque, et datant probablement d’époques différentes, insistent sur cette divinité, représentée selon des modèles stylistiques qui dépassent le simple genre bucolique. La présente contribution mettra en évidence les spécificités de chaque composition et le savoir-faire artistique de leurs auteurs respectifs. Ceux-ci se confrontent à la figure de Pan en donnant forme à une trame complexe composée de scènes champêtres, parfois non dénuées d’échos érotiques, qui permettent dans certains cas d’approfondir la dimension religieuse du culte de Pan, où se superposent des implications socio-politiques et des motivations artistiques hétérogènes. En ce sens, dans la vaste collection de l’Anthologie grecque, le dieu Pan ne se réduit pas à un simple motif de la poésie bucolique, mais attire plutôt l’attention sur un large éventail d’aspects – qu’ils soient religieux, politiques, esthétiques et littéraires – repris et retravaillés de diverses manières dans une large perspective diachronique. The figure of Pan evokes a rural context in which he acts as the patron god of a range of activities covering the entire spectrum of pastoral and hunting practices. Presiding over this wide range of skills, Pan is presented as a deity with a very ancient and complex cult, often linked to a specific geographical context: Arcadia. A group of epigrams transmitted by different books of the Anthologia Graeca, and probably dating back to different periods, insist on this deity, represented according to stylistic models that go beyond the mere bucolic genre. This contribution will highlight the specificities of the individual compositions and the artistic skill of their respective authors. They engage with the figure of Pan, giving shape to a complex web of rural scenes, sometimes with erotic overtones, which in some cases allow us to explore the religious dimension of the cult of Pan, where socio-political implications and heterogeneous artistic motivations overlap. In this sense, within the vast collection of the Anthologia Graeca, the god Pan cannot be reduced to a mere stylistic feature of bucolic poetry, but rather draws attention to a wide range of aspects – whether religious, political, aesthetic or literary – which are taken up and reworked in various ways in a broad diachronic perspective. |
