Abstract :

In De anima 425a14-a30, Aristotle tries to account for the perception of the comon sensibles without supposing a specialized organ and sense for them. Commentators agree about this, but interpretations vary on several points. This paper is an attempt to show what is at stake remains the same beyond the diversity of detailed misunderstandings. What is essential in this Aristotle's text is that there is a correspondence between the unity of the sensitive faculty and the unity of the perceived thing. The unity of the former warrants the identity and the identification of the latter.
