Abstract :
The Mandaic literature knows a number of ritual texts or scrolls, which are entitled (sarh) 'explanation, commentary, interpretation'. this term is an Arabic loanword into Mandaicand it shows that this kind of literature qas compiled after the Islamic conquest of Mesopotamia. In Mandaic sarh is the name of a kind of tet which contains laconic descriptions of rituals for divers Mandaic ceremonies. A charcteristic feature of these texts is the repeated quotation from The Canonical Prayerbook of the Mandaeans. In fact, these sarh-texts are not commentaries like in the theological and philological European tradition, but more explanations or instructions. this article deals with a text on teh festival of Paruanaiia.
