Abstract :
If crisis means instability, the gap between a present and a desired state, as well as the uncertainty that this desired state will be reached, then crisis is the normal state of democracy. It is manifest in at least three of its essential dimensions: the non-coincidence of the collectivity to itself (and the questions that arise around the definition of 'the people'), the absence of an ultimate foundation, and the particular quality of democratic time, which reinforces the uncertainty of the regime.
