Synchronically the verb -ira is best regarded as a quotative verb but comparative research indicates that its origins lie in a generic action verb. It is shown that frequent use in a reported discourse construction can lead to DO/SAY polysemy and can even result in a semantic change to a generic speech verb. L’article décrit la variabilité fonctionnelle du verbe -ira en shangaci et tente d’en définir le sémantisme lexical. Synchroniquement, le verbe -ira doit plutôt être considéré comme un «verbe quotatif», mais l’étude comparative montre qu’à l’origine il s’agissait d’un verbe d’action générique. L’hypothèse avancée est que son usage fréquent dans le discours rapporté peut mener à une polysémie FAIRE/DIRE et même le transformer en un verbe déclaratif générique. |
