Abstract :
Is the Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus grounded upon ambiguity or double meaning of the adverb ἄνωθεν (John 3,3.7: to be born desuper, 'from above' / to be born denuo, 'again')? In order to answer the question, the present article analyses and illustrates the various meanings of the term ἄνωθεν in non Palestinian Koine Greek [269 instances] and especially its particular sense denuo during the first centuries AD.
