Title: The Current Situation of the Occitan Language
Subtitle: Sociological Issues
Author(s): DANSEREAU, Diane
Volume: 35 Date: 1988-1990
The author's fieldwork in the Languedoccian dialect shows that native speakers do still exist and provides in addition valuable insight into the current status of this dying language. The aim of this article is to review the socio-linguistic situation of the Occitan language up until the latest studies in the early 1970's and then to bring the reader up to date, by including observations made in my 1981 fieldwork.
