Abstract :
In 1912 an important lot of Attic Geometric pottery was sold at the Paris auction house Hotel Drouot. The 21 pieces of pottery belonged to the collection of the late Jean P. Lambros from Athens and, according to the auction catalogue, were found together. Apart from a small Proto-Attic mug, there seems to be no reason to doubt this statement, and it is argued here that they once formed the inventory of a single Attic grave. The importance of the Lambros group, as this ensemble was called then, was soon acknowledged by B. Schweitzer, who, already in 1918, discussed it in an appendix to his article on the Geometric style in Greece.
