Abstract :
Two New Testament texts have received singular emphasis in the discussion of the role of Peter as the 'head of the apostolic college.' The importance of these passages is attested by their prominence in our theological tradition, in which they have been repeatedly cited as the foundational texts for the Petrine primacy and the subsequent affirmation of the primacy of the See of Rome among the ancient and modern Sees of Christendom. The importance of these two passages is also attested in church architecture albeit on different architectural scales.
