Abstract :

Apart from a page of a treatise known only by means of a Latin translation, we do not find, in the extant work of al-Kindi, any full text specifically devoted to time. But the topic occurs often in various contexts: cosmological and theological perspectives, views on the historic development of knowledge, morals, metaphysics. Thus time appears, in this philosopher, as an aspect of the finitude and of the precariousness of the universe, of human weakness, and also the environment in which he can extend his knowledge and prepare his salvation. (Transl. by J. Dudley).
