The EHD is an event taking place annually in each of the member countries of the Council of Europe. Every country chooses the theme of the event independently. One of the objectives of the Council is to strngthen and promote European culture, and the EHD have, according to the Council, the following aims: - To improve the knowledge of our heritage and that of others and to learn to know each other better as Europeans, through the cultural heritage which is common and diverse at the same time. - To protect the cultural heritage, which is often threatened: its protection concerns, above all, public authorities but also involves private bodies. -To play a key role in our search for identity and in the affirmation of our collective memory; it should also allow us to open ourselves up to others and help us to combat racism, xenophobia and intolerance effectively. - To regard cultural heritage not only as a look back at the past, but also as a vision towards the future. We must reclaim it, reinterpret it and place it again in relation to its political, social and economic implications. |
