Abstract :
Thanks to double names such as Basel/Bâle and the like, the onomastic interferences between the Germanic and the Romance domains of the dark ages are rather well known to the general public. We have however chosen quite a different aspect of this same problem, i.e. the survival of a Celtic element in both domains. We will thus comment on place names belonging to Celtic *brig-/*berg- ‘mountain’ occurring both in Germanic and in Romance.
