Abstract :

The present political situation in Nepal offers a rather complex image: a kingdom defined as Hindu by the Constitution, a parliamentary monarchy dominated by Brahmins, ethnic protests ... One may understand the conflicts and the stakes in looking at the part played by the Brahmins in the nepalese history since the 18th century unification. One see then how religion and politics have been interrelated and have overlapped. The way the brahmanic ideology and the Brahmins themselves have been used in the process of edification of a nepalese State reveals the grounds of the present claims, and how this conflict is rooted in a debate inherent to the social history of the subcontinent.
