In Q, the baptism scene (Q 3,21f) and the temptation story correspond to one another. As far as the son of God restrains from the appeals of the devil, the proclamation announced by the divine voice (Q 3,22) becomes real. By analysing the Old Testament background of the various temptations and by assuming that the temptations reflect external knowledge of Jesus beside the information within the text, this article argues that the focus on the obedience of the son of God to God himself points to Jesus' willingness to accept humiliation and his final way to the cross. Once one reads Q as a scripture containing its own theological and christological world, the reader may become aware of a peculiar interpretation of Jesus' passion. The temptation story interprets the refusal of Jesus in passion and in death as a mighty act of obedience against God. |
