Abstract :
The first comprehensive study of Islamic settlement in the Kur River Basin, Fars Province Iran, was based on historical and geographical sources. The discussion presented in this article is based in part on survey data and ceramics collected during dissertation research in the Kur River Basin between 1967 and 1969 by one of the authors, supplemented by data from earlier surveys. Although the study of the Islamic archaeology of the Kur River Basin is still in progress, this article presents additional discussion of site morphology and settlement, a discussion of Williamson's chronology of Islamic ceramics, and the first publication of Madabad Ware, a painted unglazed Islamic ceramic found on some 58 sites in the Kur River Basin.
