Abstract :
The author investigates the evidence on commerce and trade for each of the three main periods considered, namely the Hellenistic & Roman-republican, Roman-imperial, and Late Roman – Early Byzantine, and tries to answer two questions:
- With which countries was Berytus, directly or indirectly, connected?
- Is Berytus original or prominent in trade and commerce activities, as compared with other harbours from the Phoenician coast?
