Abstract :
It is for the Roman and Late Roman eras that the fullest accounts of life in Berytus have been preserved. We can catch important glimpses of the people and their lives from these contemporary narratives, laws and inscriptions. The author surveys (the accounts on) Berytus' history from the foundation of the Colonia by Augustus to the sixth century. It appears that, in the course of time, the Phoenician cities were romanized politically, religiously and militarily.
