Abstract :
The seventh-century Syriac monastic writer, Isaac of Niniveh or Isaac the Syrian, was very influential, as testified by the various translations of his work that have been made over the centuries into some 20 different languages. The first translation into Greek appeared already a century after Isaac's death. Most later translations derive from this early Greek text.
