Document Details : Title: Le «Mégas Chronographos» et Procope Author(s): GREATREX, Geoffrey Journal: Revue des Études Byzantines Volume: 81 Date: 2023 Pages: 49-55 DOI: 10.2143/REB.81.0.3292137 Abstract : Cet article, se fondant sur une comparaison détaillée de la neuvième notice du «Mégas Chronographos» et des chapitres 22-23 du livre II des Guerres de Procope, démontre que le chroniqueur a puisé son récit, de manière directe ou indirecte, dans celui de l’historien: jusqu’ici on n’avait pas pu identifier la source de la notice. Il s’agit ainsi d’une découverte importante, surtout étant donné l’attention portée à la peste de Justinien dernièrement. Dans ce contexte, on avait tendance à traiter les renseignements du chroniqueur comme une source indépendante de l’historien, approche à laquelle il faudra dorénavant renoncer. This article, based on a detailed comparison of the ninth entry of the 'Megas Chronographos' and chapters 22-23 of Procopius’ Wars, establishes that the chronicler drew his account, whether directly or indirectly, from that of the historian: until now no one had identified the source of this entry. The discovery is of some importance, given the great attention now being paid to the Justinianic plague. In this context, the chronicler’s notice has often been perceived as an independent source, which now is shown to be no longer possible. |
