Si à l’évidence ces deux termes se distinguent, il n’est pas assuré que ce soit de façon exclusive; ce serait plutôt une affaire de gradation, comme nous entendons le montrer. Pour y parvenir, l’analyse s’appuie sur les multiples significations du verbe «faire» dans le corpus aristotélicien, ainsi que sur la notion contemporaine de performativité, laquelle fait intervenir la vertu intellectuelle de sagesse, nécessaire afin de bien cerner ce qu’implique la theoria sur le plan éthique. L’objection que semble représenter la division des sciences à l’égard de cette lecture sera finalement considérée. The aim of this article is to reexamine Aristotle’s concepts of praxis and theoria, which are traditionally opposed in the history of philosophy. While it is clear that there is a distinction between the two terms, it is by no means established that they exclude each other – it is rather a question of degree, as we aim to show. With this in view, we analyse the numerous meanings of the verb «to do» in Aristotle’s works as well as the contemporary concept of performativity, which involves the intellectual virtue of wisdom that is needed to determine correctly the implications of theoria in the field of ethics. Finally, the objection to this interpretation that appears to arise from the division of the sciences will be examined. |
