Romieu executed his mission but died shortly after departing from Tehran in mid-October of that year. A number of sources refer to a mausoleum built at the command of the Shah just outside one of the city gates of the capital, which successive visitors to Tehran tried with mixed success to visit. One of these, Capt. Armand François Lamy, made a drawing of the mausoleum which was later the basis for a lithograph and small rendering in bistre on paper by Louis Léonce Romieu, a descendant of the French envoy’s. It is published here, with commentary, for the first time. En 1805, Antoine-Alexandre Romieu est envoyé à la cour de Fath ‘Ali Shah avec une lettre de Napoléon. Romieu s’acquitte de sa mission mais meurt peu après son départ de Téhéran à la mi-octobre de la même année. Un certain nombre de sources font référence à un mausolée construit sur l’ordre du Shah juste à l’extérieur de l’une des portes de la capitale, que les visiteurs successifs de Téhéran ont essayé de visiter avec un succès mitigé. L’un d’eux, le capitaine Armand François Lamy, a fait un dessin du mausolée qui a servi de base à une lithographie et à un petit rendu en bistre sur papier de Louis Léonce Romieu, un descendant de l’envoyé français.
